Our Classroom Website

Welcome!

My name is Melissa Saechang and I am so happy that I have the chance to teach your child this year!

A few things about myself and my teaching philosophy:

I am very easy going and am so excited to get to know your child over the next year. I encourage all parents to get involved with their child's journey through third grade! There are many ways a parent may get involved either by volunteering to help out in the classroom, through after school activities such as media nights where your child may build on their A.R. points or family book fairs. Feel free to contact me anytime with any questions you may have about your child. I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner and help out any way I can.

In our classroom we follow the same behavioral guidelines as the rest of the school. I have just a few rules I expect my students to follow and those are:

       1. Always do you're best

       2. Listen and follow directions quickly

       3. Respect yourself, others, and your school

       4. Keep your body to yourself

       5. Use your school voice

       6. Raise your hand to talk

These rules are put in place for the safety of our students, and to provide your child with a logical structure and foundation within the classroom to promote respectful, responsible, and self-disciplined behaviors.

Fridays, we will have an extra 30 minutes of class time where students who behaved appropriately throughout the week will get to use this time to play games and earn a reward from the treasure box. If a student has not behaved their best for most of the week, they will use this time to reflect on their behavior and we will come up with ways they could improve next week. If a student has incomplete work, They will use this time to finish any incomplete work before participating in "fun Friday".

Students will have opportunities each day to earn smiley faces or sad faces and at the end of the day, if the smiley faces outweigh the sad faces then it counts as a point for the treasure box. Students must have 4 points to pick a prize from the treasure box.

In addition to having to reflect on behavior or finish work on Friday's, students may have recess time taken away if they get too many sad faces and in extreme cases I may have to call parents to come pick up their child.

Learning objectives:

Please look for my weekly newsletter I will be sending home that explains all the content we will be learning including vocabulary words, books we are reading, math skills, science, and social studies.

Homework:

Please remember to check your Childs homework folder each night. There will be a weekly schedule that says what day students will have math, spelling, vocabulary, and ELA. I will provide more detailed information within the homework folder as well as my contact information so you can feel free to text me or e-mail me anytime you have questions.
